For the second straight year of ranking American law firms, U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers® have named FSB FisherBroyles, LLP (“FSB”) as one of the nation’s best law firms. Additionally, two FSB partners, James E. Meadows, of the Atlanta office, and Harvey A. Kurtz, of the Chicago office, were listed by Best Lawyers as Leading Lawyers in their respective practice areas of Information Technology Law and Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law. FSB’s Information Technology practice was specifically highlighted in the rankings as a Tier 1 Atlanta firm in that market.
The national distinction is especially significant given the firm’s upcoming 10-year anniversary since its founding in April 2002. “Being recognized as a top tier firm for two years in a row is a notable achievement for any firm, and especially so for a younger firm like FSB,” said FSB co-founder Kevin E. Broyles. “FSB was founded less than ten years ago and now is recognized as standing shoulder-to-

About the U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” rankings. An unprecedented amount of data was collected in the project’s second year. The U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process.
Law firm clients were asked to provide feedback on firm practice groups addressing expertise, responsiveness, understanding of a business and its needs, cost-effectiveness, civility, and whether they would refer another client to the firm. Lawyers voted on expertise, responsiveness, integrity, cost-effectiveness, whether they would refer a matter to a firm, and whether they consider a firm a worthy competitor. These reputational survey responses were combined with more than 3.9 million evaluations of 41,284 individual leading lawyers collected by Best Lawyers® in its most recent annual survey of leading lawyers.
All of the quantitative and qualitative data were combined into an overall “Best Law Firms” score for each firm. This data was then compared to other firms within the same metropolitan area and at the national level. Because firms were often separated by small or insignificant differences in overall score, a tiering system was used rather than ranking law firms sequentially. The first tier includes those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the highest-scoring firms.
