For the second straight year of ranking American law firms, U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers® have named FSB FisherBroyles, LLP (“FSB”) as one of the nation’s best law firms.  Additionally, two FSB partners, James E. Meadows, of the Atlanta office, and Harvey A. Kurtz, of the Chicago office, were listed by Best Lawyers as Leading Lawyers in their respective practice areas of Information Technology Law and Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law.  FSB’s Information Technology practice was specifically highlighted in the rankings as a Tier 1 Atlanta firm in that market.

The national distinction is especially significant given the firm’s upcoming 10-year anniversary since its founding in April 2002.  “Being recognized as a top tier firm for two years in a row is a notable achievement for any firm, and especially so for a younger firm like FSB,” said FSB co-founder Kevin E. Broyles.  “FSB was founded less than ten years ago and now is recognized as standing shoulder-to-shoulder with hundred-year old firms in key practice areas.”

“We believe that this second year of recognition by U.S. News and Best Lawyers of our firm’s expertise and breadth of experience demonstrates our staying power,” commented FSB’s other co-founder James M. Fisher II.  “We are successfully recruiting additional partners in the top tier of their practice areas across the United States as our unique business model continues to gain traction nationally.”

The U.S. News rankings accompany another milestone recognition for the firm. Recently, Business-to-Business Magazine named FSB’s co-founders Fisher and Broyles as the top Entrepreneurs in Atlanta for 2011. “Our business model coupling big-firm depth and excellence with lean low overhead is on the leading edge of what we believe will be radical change to the market for legal services. It is an industry that is ripe for change, and we are gratified to see that the business community has embraced our platform so extensively,” Broyles said.

“Each FSB partner is a seasoned veteran of one of the nation’s largest law firms or corporate legal departments,” Fisher went on to explain. “We combine that elite level of talent with a lean, low-overhead model that allows us to deliver exceptional value to our clients. These rankings show just how strongly that formula is resonating in the marketplace.”

About the U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” rankings. An unprecedented amount of data was collected in the project’s second year. The U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process.

Law firm clients were asked to provide feedback on firm practice groups addressing expertise, responsiveness, understanding of a business and its needs, cost-effectiveness, civility, and whether they would refer another client to the firm. Lawyers voted on expertise, responsiveness, integrity, cost-effectiveness, whether they would refer a matter to a firm, and whether they consider a firm a worthy competitor. These reputational survey responses were combined with more than 3.9 million evaluations of 41,284 individual leading lawyers collected by Best Lawyers® in its most recent annual survey of leading lawyers.

All of the quantitative and qualitative data were combined into an overall “Best Law Firms” score for each firm. This data was then compared to other firms within the same metropolitan area and at the national level. Because firms were often separated by small or insignificant differences in overall score, a tiering system was used rather than ranking law firms sequentially. The first tier includes those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the highest-scoring firms.
