Mission Chamber Orchestra of San Jose will be presenting dance themed pieces from Dvo?ák, Piazzolla, Copland and Respighi for their February concert at Le Petit Trianon in San Jose
Likewise, Mission Chamber Orchestra of San Jose led by conductor and musical director Emily Ray will present a varied, danced-themed Valentine concert featuring Dvo?ák’s light and airy Valse and Scherzo from Serenade for Strings, op. 22 to Piazzolla’s sensuously rhythmic Argentine-tango based Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (Four Seasons). The latter is the highlight of the concert featuring violinist Christina Mok in a virtuoso violin performance of this exciting and cleverly novel piece originally composed for an accordion-like instrument called the bandoneón. This new (2009) arrangement by Russian conductor Leonid Desyatnikov includes an homage to Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Rounding out the performance are Aaron Copland’sDance Panels and Ottorino Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances Suite no. 1.
